While we're on the way

1

Turn off the water at the main

Find your main water shut-off valve, usually near the street or in a basement corner. Turn the handle clockwise until it stops. This stops water from pouring into your home while we're on the way. If you can't locate it or the valve won't turn, leave it alone and call us.

2

Move what you can away from the water

Push furniture, rugs, and personal items to dry areas if it's safe to do so. Open windows and doors to get air moving. Do not plug in electrical items in wet areas or walk through standing water if you can avoid it.

3

Turn off the hot water heater if it's gas

Gas water heaters should be switched off at the valve on the line leading in. This is a safety step if water is flooding near it. Electric heaters don't need this step, but do turn off electricity to that breaker if water is near the unit.

4

Take photos for your insurance claim

Snap pictures of wet drywall, flooring, and belongings while you wait. Time-stamp images help when you file a claim. Store them somewhere safe right now.

5

Clear the area and stay safe

Move family and pets to a dry room. Do not attempt to use electrical pumps or fans if water is still rising. Wait for us to arrive and assess what's happening.

When we arrive, the plumber will find the leak, assess whether pipes have burst or come loose, and determine if water is entering walls or the slab underneath. In a true emergency, we stop the leak and control the water first. Everything else comes after.

What counts as urgent: water actively pouring, sewage backing up into your home, water pooling in the foundation, a water heater flooding, or gas line issues. These need immediate attention because they damage structure and pose safety risks. A slow drip under the sink, a running toilet, or a clogged drain can usually wait until tomorrow.

What doesn't need to wait: if your water heater is dead and you have no hot water, call us. If you see a small leak in a pipe behind the washer or under a bathroom sink, we can schedule you the same day or next morning. If your main sewer line backs up, that's an emergency. A single slow toilet is not.

We're licensed and insured, and every repair is quoted before we start. You won't get surprised. Call now and tell us what's happening. If it's truly urgent, we're coming.
